Shreya Ghoshal came into limelight when she won Sa Re Ga Ma Pa contest. The music world saw the little girl receiving the award from Sonu Nigam as champion. During that competition Shreya was spotted as the star of future by many music directors.

Date of birth: 12 March 1984 in Berhampore, West Bengal, India
She stayed at Berhampore for initial 3 months and then moved to Rawatbhata near Kota,   Rajasthan. Her father was posted there.

Mother: Sarmistha Ghoshal

From her childhood Shreya was inclined on music. Her first guru in music was her mother.  Afterwards she took training from Rakesh Sharmaji, Shri Jayawardhan Bhatnagar, her school's music teacher, Mahesh Chandra Sharmaji. All of them were from Kota, Rajasthan. In Mumbai she got training from Late Mukta Bhideji in classical Hindusthani music.

Shreya’s Hindi playback singer career starts with film Devdas. Shreya received both the Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback Singer and the Filmfare RD Burman Award for New Music Talent for her songs in Devdas. Since then Shreya is marching on. Till today she has received four National Film Awards and four Filmfare Awards.

Shreya Ghoshal is singing in Bengali films also. Apart from Hindi and Bengali, she has songs in other regional languages also.

Shreya has received many awards so far and will get many more awards in coming years. Here is the list of most prestigious awards Shreya has received so far.

2003: National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer for the song ‘Bairi Piya’ in film Devdas.

2006: National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer for the song ‘Dheere Jalna’ in film Paheli.

2008: National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer for the song ‘Yeh Ishq Hai’ for the film Jab We Met.

All the above three films are in Hindi.

2009: National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer for the song ‘Jeev Dangala’ for the film Jogwa(Marathi) and for the song ‘Pherari Mon’ for the film Antaheen in Bengali.

2003: Filmfare RD Burman Award for New Music Talent.

2003: Filmfare Best Female Playback Singer Award for the song ‘Dola Re’ in film Devdas. This award was shared with Kavita Krishnamurthy.

 2004: Filmfare Best Female Playback Singer Award for the song ‘Jaadu Hai Nasha Hai’ for the film Jism.

2008: Filmfare Best Female Playback Singer Award for the song ‘Barso Re’ in film Guru.

2009: Filmfare Best Female Playback Singer Award for the song ‘Teri Ore’ for the film Singh Is Kinng.

Shreya has won several Filmfare awards from South also for her songs in South film industry. So far Shreya has won 4 IIFA awards, in 2003, 2004, 2008 and 2009 as IIFA Best Female playback singer.

In 2003 Shreya won IIFA Best Female Playback Singer Award jointly with Kavita Krishnamurthy for the song ‘Dola Re’ from film Devdas.

In 2004 Shreya won IIFA Best Female Playback Singer Award for the song ‘Jadu Hai Nasha Hai’ from film Jism.

In 2008 Shreya won IIFA Best Female Playback Singer Award for the song ‘Barso Re’ from film Guru.

In 2009 Shreya won IIFA Best Female Playback Singer Award for the song ‘Teri Ore’ from the film Singh Is Kinng.
