Aparna Sen was born on 25 October 1945
Aparna Sen is the daughter of famous film critic Chidananda Dasgupta and her mother was Supriya Dasgupta. Supriya Devi is cousin of famous Bengali poet Jibanananda Das.
At the age of 16 years, Aparna Sen made her debut in film. Her first film was Satyajit Ray’s Teen Kanya.
Second film of Aparna Sen is Akash Kusum and the film was produced in 1965.
Aparna Sen has worked in both Bengali and Hindi films as an actress although number of Bengali films is more. Few of the famous films of Aparna Sen are: Baksa Badal, Chutir Phande, Joy Jayanti, Alor Thikana, Antaheen, Paromitar Ek Din, Titli, Imaan Dharam, Vishwas and many more. Aparna Sen has worked with Soumitra Chottopadhyay, Uttam Kumar and Amitabh Bachchan.
As a director, Aparna Sen debuted with an English film 36 Chowringhee Lane which was a critically acclaimed film. Till today Aparna Sen has directed many famous films like Paroma, Sati, Yugant, Paromitar Ek Din, Mr. and Mrs. Iyer, 15 Park Avenue, The Japanese Wife, Iti Mrinalini, Goynar Baksho.
Aparna Sen has won National Film Award for three times, the films are 36 Chowringhee Lane, Mr. and Mrs. Iyer and Paromitar Ek Din.
