In 2012, Bengali films fared well in the box office. Fully commercial entertainer films, novel based films, films on unusual stories, all were accepted by audiences provided the film had a good story and performance of the actors and actresses were good.
Dev, Jeet and Prasenjit were at the top among the male actors in Bengali films. Prasenjit has done experiments with different type of roles. Dev and Jeet were comfortable with their stero type characters. Among the actresses, Rituparna Sengupta has again proved that she is at the top slot among the heroines in Bengali films till today. 2012 was a good productive year for Swastika Mukherjee. Paoli dam was at the center of controversies in 2012 and none of her films were box office hit in 2012. Bengali film lovers had a lot of hopes on Tanusree Chakraborty, Parno Mitra but they failed to fulfill the expectations.
