Legendary playback singer Shamshad Begum died on 23 April 2013

Shamshad Begum, the legendary playback singer of Hindi films died on 23 April night at her Mumbai residence after a prolonged old age illness. The lady with a golden voice will be remembered for ever for the songs like 'Mere Piya Gaye Rangoon', 'Kabhi Aar Kabhi Paar', 'Kajra Mohabbat Wala' and many more.

Shamshad Begum was 94 years old and date of birth of the singer is 14 April 1919. Shamshad Begum was born in Amritsar, Punjab. Shamshad Begum was awarded Padma Bhushan in 2009.

Shamshad Begum was living with her daughter Usha Ratra and son-in-law in Mumbai since the death of her husband in 1955.
