The plot of the film Shantiniketaney is around a guest house in Shantiniketan. The owner of the guest house is Amrita. Amrita is a Punjabi girl and widow. The lady was married to a Bengali.

The film Shantiniketaney revolves around the inhabitants of the guest house. Sreelekha is a moody lady who is involved in a relationship with a professor Rajesh Sharma. A student of Visva Bharati also stays at the guest house and Amrita treats the girl as her daughter. Victor Banerjee is playing the role of a struggling director who is yet to direct any movie. The director is also a resident of the guest house.
