Veena Malik handed a 26 years jail term for blasphemy




Pakistani Bollywood actress Veena Malik is handed a 26-year jail term by a Pakistani anti-terrorism court for ‘malicious acts’ of blasphemy.

Veena's crime is for appearing in a pretend wedding scene, staged on a daytime show broadcast by Geo TV and based on the marriage of the Prophet Mohamed’s daughter.

The programme was aired in May this year and the controversy raised in the Islamic country. Veena's husband, Asad Bashir Khan, and Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman, the chief executive of the biggest media group in the Asian country, were also sentenced to 26 years jail for the apparent religious offence.

What is Blasphemy


Blasphemy is the act of insulting or showing contempt or lack of reverence for deities, to religious or holy persons or things, or toward something considered sacred or inviolable.
