Mahua Roychowdhury

Mahua Roychowdhury worked in Tollywood film industry for only 12 years but at the time of her untimely death, the sweet faced actress was the top heroine in Bengali films. Mahua has 40 films in her kitty while she died on 22 July 1986 in a controversial fire accident and at that time Mahua was only 27 years old.

Mahua Roychowdhury came from a middle class family and reached the top with her acting skill and beauty. Mahua was also a trained dancer. Mahua was not happy in personal and family life. Before death, Mahua attempted suicide several times.

Sumitra Mukhopadhay

Sumitra Mukhopadhay was born in Kolkata on 30th March 1949. Sumitra had a beautiful smile always on her face, her nickname also was Hansi. Sumitra acted in films, stage and open stage (Jatra). Sumitra studied in Jogomaya College, Kolkata.

Sumitra normally acted mostly in typical Bengali woman characters. Few of the famous films of Sumitra are ''Bikele Bhorer Phul'', ''Basanta Bilap'', ''Debi Chowdhurani'', ''Devdas'', ''Sesh Rakha'', ''Mem Saheb'', ''Amritakumbher Sandhane'', and ''Ogo Badhu Sundari''.

Sumitra Mukhopadhyay's first husband was Sashadhar Mukhopadhay and they had two sons. Married life was not happy for Sumita and they got divorced. Afterwards Sumitra shared a live-in relationship with producer Ranbindranath Malhotra but here also Sumitra was unhappy. Sumitra once attempt suicide for depression in life.

Sumitra died on 21 May 2003, at the age of 54 due to massive heart attack.


Mita Deb Roy


Mita Deb Roy made her filmy debut in 1983 in film 'Duti Pata'. Prosenjit Chatterjee was opposite Mita Deb Roy in this film and the film is Prosenjit's first film as hero.After the film, Prosenjit's filmy career took the upward swing but something different was stored in Mita's fate. Mita vanished from the film industry and gradually she was vanished from the mind of people.

After a gap of long years, Mita was found begging near Tarapith temple. West Bengal Motion Pictures Artistes' Forum and Cinetel Welfare Trust extended their helping hands towards Mita Deb Roy. The secretary of Artistes' Forum Rupa Ganguly has given Mita and her seven-yearold daughter shelter in her own home.

Mita Deb Roy was landed in this dire state after two of her films were shelved and she was deserted by her husband.


Pratima Bandopadhyay (Playback Singer)

Pratima Bandopadhyay was born in Kolkata in 1933 and started singing since her childhood. The woman with a golden voice was very soft in nature and that's why she was cheated by her close people. Pratima Bandopadhyay was active for three decades - 50's, 60's and 70's. 

On 29 July 2004, Pratima Bandopadhyay suffered a massive heart attack and breathed her last at her residence in Kolkata. During the last few years of her life, Pratima Bandopadhyay faced financial troubles.
