Music training: At his early age, Pritam got the training in music from his father. In 1993, Pritam Chakraborty joined Film and Television Institute in Pune to learn sound recording and engineering.

Once Pritam Chakraborty was associated with Bangla Band Chandrabindoo. After completion of his course in Pune Institute, Pritam moved to Mumbai for a better future. Like many other music directors, Pritam also used to compose jingle for advertisements during his struggle days in Mumbai. Pritam Chakraborty first got his opportunity as music director in film Tere Liye. Pritam composed the music of this film jointly with another Bengali music director Jeet Ganguly. Pritam and Jeet worked together for a short period of time and now they are working separately.

Pritam Chakraborty first tasted the success in 2004 as a solo music director for composing music in Hindi film Dhoom and since then Pritam is a big name in the film industry as music director.

Pritam Chakraborty composed music on many Hindi films, few of the hit films are Dhoom, Dhoom 2, Life in A Metro, Gangster, Jab We Met, Desi Boyz etc.
