This Durga Puja is going to be a litmus test for Bengali film
industry as five films will be in the box office race. The films are Rajkahini, Byomkesh Bakshi, Cross Connection 2, Shudhu
Tomari Jonnyo and Katmundu. Another question is surfaced - will Rituparna Sengupta regain her top position in Bengali films? It depends on Ritu's performance in Rajkahini.
Film Rajkahini is a Rs 3.5 crore film while
budget of film Shudhu Tomari Jonnyo was Rs. 4 crore.
Jisshu Sengupta is the new Byomkesh in Anjan
Dutta’s film. Audiences will compare Jisshu with Abir Chatterjee, previous Byomkesh
Bakshi of Anjan Dutta.
It is expected that the main tussle will be
between Rajkahini and Byomkesh. Rumour is that Rajkahini is going to be the life time performance of Rituparna Sengupta. Actress Srabanti Chatterjee is also not happy
as two films of the actress will release during the puja.
Shudhu Tomari Jonnyo is released in 230 theatres across Bengal and the number for film Katmandu is 108. Srabanti is in leading female role in both the films. Rajkahini will be released in 60 theatres and Byomkesh Bakshi in 57 theatres. The number of theatres is 30 for film Cross Connection 2.
