Bengali Folk Singer Kalika Prasad Bhattacharya passes away

Noted Bengali folk singer Kalika Prasad Bhattacharya died today (07 February 2017) in a road accident on NH 2 at Gurap, near Burdwan. Kalika Prasad was 47.

Kalika Prasad was travelling along with five members of his Bangla band, 'Dohar' towards Suri for a school function. The accident occurred ar 10.00 AM when their SUV was hit from behind by a truck.

All the six members including Kalika Prasad were admitted to Burdwan hospital by local people where doctors declared Kalika Prasad brought dead. Other three injured are in critical condition.


The Silchar-born singer did his schooling at Silchar but afterwards came to Kolkata for higher education. Kalika Prasad Studied at Guru Charan College (G C College), Calcutta University and Jadavpur University. Kalika Prasad Bhattacharjee is survived by his wife and a daughter.

Kalika Prasad has made folk songs of rural Bengal popular among the present generation in the albums of his band 'Dohar'. Kalika had also lent his voice in films like Jaatishwar (2014), Moner Manush (2010) and Bhuban Majhi (2017).
