Review of film Sankhachil

Film Sankhachil is based on humanity. Border, religion are successfully used to make differences between people of neighbouring countries. Goutam Ghosh’s film Sankhachil shows how humanity wins inspite of differences created due to dirty politics. 

Sankhachil highlights the anguish that people have gone through due to partition, through generations. Film Sankhachil revolves around the family of a village school teacher at the Indo-Bangladesh border, Muntasir Chowdhury Badal (Prosenjit Chatterjee), his wife Laila (Bangladeshi actress Kusum Sikder) and their daughter Roopsha (Shajbati).  

Roopsha suffers from a life threatening heart disease and local doctors failed. The couple is advised by the neighbours and local doctors to get her treated at any well equipped hospital in a big town. The couple are Bangladeshi nationals but for them India is a nearer destination.

As Roopsha’s condition worsens, the couple decides to reach India crossing the Ichamati river. Ultimately they reached India, got their daughter admitted to the hospital but at the cost of fake names, religion and country to avoid get deported back.

Prosenjit Chatterjee is outstanding in film Sankhachil and this is undoubtadely his best performance.

Story of the film Shankhachil

Film Shankhachil is based on a story by Goutam Ghose and Sayantani Pututandu. Shankhachil is a story of the physical and emotional journey of a family along the Indo-Bangladesh border. The film tells the story of brave BSF and BGB personnel’s guarding their respective countries.

Shooting of the film Shankhachil has been completed and the film is expected to be released in April this year. Shooting locations of the film were mainly Dhaka and Kolkata.
