After ‘The Japanese Wife’ in 2010, director Aparna Sen will present another excellent movie in 2011, ‘Iti Mrinalini’. This movie will be released in April 2011.
Story of the movie-Iti Mrinalini
The movie is based on the story of a famous actress, the ups and downs she faced in her life. Mrinalini, the famous actress wants to end her much coveted life at her old age. She plans suicide by consuming sleeping pills and write a suicide note. Before committing suicide she decides to destroy all her possessions-letters, photographs, newspaper cuttings etc. She wants to destroy all these because she does not want these collections to become public via press. She opens the box which stores her memories and the movie enters the nostalgic rewinding of her yester years life. It takes her through all the memories, joys and sorrows of her life. The plan of suicide vanished from her mind. A new realization comes into her mind. Old Mrinalini realized that every stage of life is a new chapter and is different from the rest. One has to accept it.
Gradually the darkest night of Mrinalini’s life ends. In the morning she tears up the suicide note and takes her German Shepherd for a morning walk. Start of a new day with new chapter of life.
Aparna Sen’s movies always convey some message to the audiences. Message of this movie is to be optimistic and taking the life as it is. Old age is bound to come in one’s life but accept the truth of life and be happy.
Sunil Gangopadhyay’s poem, Smritir Shohor is converted into a song in this movie.
