Ghawre Bairey Aaj - next film of Aparna Sen

Upcoming film of Aparna Sen, ‘Ghawre Bairey Aaj’ is inspired by Rabindranath Tagore’s classic novel ‘Ghawre Bairey’. The poster, on the backdrop of a sociopolitical turmoil, introduces Nikhilesh, Bimala and Sandip played by Anirban Bhattacharya, Tuhina Das and Jisshu Sengupta respectively. 

Anirban Bhattacharya will be seen as Nikhilesh, Jisshu Sengupta will essay the character of Sandip. In Satyajit Ray’s screen adaptation of the same novel, these two roles of Nikhilesh and Sandip were supremely enacted by Victor Banerjee and Soumitra Chatterjee. Young actress Tuhina Das has been cast as Brinda, a modern take on the character Bimala. 

 Anjan Dutt will be seen as Mastarmoshai, which was earlier played by Manoj Mitra in Ray’s film.

Bengali Film Ek Je Chhilo Raja and Story Cast & Crew

Srijit Mukherji’s next film Ek Je Chilo Raja is based on Bhawal Sanyasi case. Director Srijit Mukherjiis mainly depending on the book 'A Princely Impostor' written by Partha Chatterjee. The role of the Sanyasi Raja will be essayed out by Jisshu Sengupta and his wife’s role will be portrayed by Rajnandini Dutta, daughter of actress Indrani Dutta. Earlier a film based on the same story was made and the title of the film was Sanyasi Raja. Legendary actor Uttam Kumar played the role of the Raja.

Bengali film Dhananjoy - Story Cast and Crew of the movie

Film Dhananjay is a Bengali language drama film directed by Arindam Sil and produced by Shrikant Mohta and Mahendra Soni under the banner of SVF Entertainment. Thirteen years ago, death penalty of Dhananjoy Chottopadhyay was a most discussed topic in West Bengal. Many eminent persons of that time welcomed the death penalty while Aparna Sen, late Sunil Gangopadhyay and Sujato Bhadra of APDR condemned the capital punishment. Dhananjoy was hanged on 15 August 2004.

Film Dhananjoy is based on the conviction of Dhananjoy Chatterjee, accused for the gruesome murder of Hetal Parekh. The crime took place in the year 1990. On the basis of circumstantial evidence and on the basis of the deceased mother's statement, Dhananjoy Chatterjee a security guard, was executed and hanged to death on the early hours of 15th August 2004. Before death Dhananjoy was imprisonment for 14 years. Dhananjoy was from a poor family in Bankura district and his family appealed to all levels of court in the country; and finally, to the President of India, Abul Kalam Azad.

Dhananjoy is no more in this world but there are many questions and doubts in the entire process. Till date Dhananjoy is the only person judicially executed in India in the twenty-first century so far for a crime not related to terrorism. The execution by hanging took place in Alipore Central Correctional Home, Kolkata, on 15 August early morning. Dhananjoy had been charged with the crimes of rape and murder of Hetal Parekh, an 18-year-old school-girl, on 5 March 1990, in her third floor apartment in Bhawanipore, Kolkata. Dhananjoy was the security guard of that apartment. Dhananjoy's family members refused to take the dead body and state government did the last rituals of the body. 

The execution stirred up many public controversies and attracted attention from media. Dhananjoy was convicted on the basis of circumstantial evidences only. Dhananjoy consistently maintained his innocence throughout his trial and imprisonment. There is a big question whether many people wanted to hang Dhananjoy as early as possible to hide something. 

Jailer, Doctor of  Alipore Central Correctional Home were surprised how a man like Dhananjoy can commit such a crime. The hang man, Nata Mallick also said that he never came across such a gentle  accused who pleaded for forgiveness if there was any mistake from his side.

Aparna Sen's English film starring Shabana Azmi and Lillete Dubey is all about female bonding and other side of mid life crisis. Aparna Sen who is famous for making women-centric films and in film Sonata she is exploring mid-life crisis through the eyes of three unmarried women living in Mumbai – professor Aruna Chaturvedi, banker Dolon Sen and journalist Subhadra Parekh. Aparna Sen plays the role of a Sanskrit professor named Aruna Chaturvedi, Shabana is Dolon Sen while Lillete Dubey will be seen as journalist Subhadra Parekh in film Sonata.

Sonata is a film based on Mahesh Elkunchwar’s play, and explores the complexities and isolation the three women experience in the backdrop of a modern day life. They have a different kind of mindset, yet despite their differences they manage to cherish each other’s company.

They drink wine, watch men in their briefs, but simultaneously remain socially conscious, hoping that no one hears them.

Actor turned filmmaker Arindam Sil is making a film on Hetal Parekh murder case and execution of accused watchman Dhananjoy Chatterjee. Title of the film is Dhananjoy. This is the first film of Mimi Chakraborty with director Arindam Sil. Arindam wrote a letter to Mimi Chakraborty regarding her role in the film Dhananjoy.

Anirban Bhattacharya will play the title role in the film Dhananjoy and Mimi Chakraborty is a lawyer in the film who will dig out the old case to find the truth.

It is learnt that the film will try to establish that Dhananjoy was innocent based on few studies and proves.

Sequel of Mr and Mrs Iyer is in planning stage

Filmmaker and actress Aparna Sen is planning about the sequel of her one of the great films, Mr and Mrs Iyer. Mr and Mrs Iyer, an English film of Aparna Sen received number of awards. Aparna Sen was adjudged the best director and her daughter Konkona Sen Sharma bagged the Best Actress award. Konkona was Mrs. Iyer in the film Mr and Mrs Iyer.

Recently Aparna Sen said that she is considering a sequel of Mr and Mrs Iyer and Konkona and Rahul Bose are in her mind for the film.

Bengali film Goynar Baksho at Houston fest

 

Aparna Sen’s film Goynar Baksho will be screened along with The Good Road at the 5th Annual Indian Film Festival of Houston (IFFH). The festival will be held between 4 October to 6 October 2013. The other Indian film The Good Road - India's official entry to the Oscars this year will be screened at the festival.

Goynar Baksho is based on a short story by Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay and stars Moushumi Chatterjee, Konkona Sen Sharma, Srabanti Chatterjee, Saswata Chatterjee and Paran Bandopadhyay.

Bengali film Chatuskone and four eminent directors will act in the film

Director acting in films is not very uncommon. In past we have seen many directors acting in his or her own films or in other’s films. Aparna Sen, Goutam Ghose, Kaushik Gongopadhyay, Anjan Dutta, Rituparno Ghosh, Sujoy Ghosh and many other famous directors have acted in films. Aparna Sen and Anjan Dutta were initially actors and then turned into direction.

Srijit Mukherjee will direct a film titled Chatuskone and four eminent film directors - Aparna Sen, Goutam Ghose, Kaushik Gongopadhyay and Anjan Dutta will act in the film. Initially Rituparno Ghosh was assumed to play an important role in the film Chatuskone but after his sad demise Kaushik Gangopadhyay has been included in the casting of the film. Shooting of the film will be started in November this year. Script of the film Chatuskone is written by the director Srijit Mukherjee himself. The film is based on the story of four directors and that’s why Srijit has decided to cast four famous Bengali directors. The film Chotuskone is jointly produced by Rana Sarkar and Reliance Entertainment. Bengali film industry is waiting eagerly for a unique film.
