Box Office Report of Bengali films in year 2015-2016

Bengali film industry is passing through very tough time. In year 2014-2015, the condition was worst. In year 2015-2016, more than 100 Bengali films were released but the box office situation is unaltered. What is the future of the industry? As per record, nearly 110 Bengali films were released during January 2015 to March 2016.  Among the films, film Belaseshe of Shiboprosad Mukhopadhyay and Nandita Roy has recorded good box office business. The film Belaseshe was a 1 Crore 10 lakhs movie and box office collection of the film was nearly 6.5 crore.

 Among the detective films, Ebar Shabar of Arindam Shil did good box office business. Anindya Chottopadhyay’s debut film Open T Bioscope also succeeded in box office. Among the typical commercial movies, Jamai 420 and Besh Korechi Prem Korechi of Jeet – Koel pair have done good business.

 During Durga Puja 2015, total six Bengali films were released and this never happed before. Srijit Mukherjee’s Rajkahini, Anjan Dutta’s Byomkesh Bokshi, Raj Chakraborty’s Kathmundu, Sudhu Tomari Jonyo of Birsa Dasgupta, Cross Connection 2 of Abhijit Roy and Sudeshna Roy were released during last year Durga Puja.  All the films were box office hit with Rajkahini and Byomkesh on the front line. Another important point is that in the last one year, remake films failed in Bengali film industry. Last year was not very productive for mainstream films also excepting Jamai 420 and Besh Korechi Prem Korechi. Many Bengali film producers are interested in Indo-Bangladesh joint production films to capture the Bangladesh market and this may help Bengali films to survive.
 
Let’s hope that in 2016, Bengali film industry will be abale to find the right path.

Film Sankhachil is based on humanity. Border, religion are successfully used to make differences between people of neighbouring countries. Goutam Ghosh’s film Sankhachil shows how humanity wins inspite of differences created due to dirty politics. 

Sankhachil highlights the anguish that people have gone through due to partition, through generations. Film Sankhachil revolves around the family of a village school teacher at the Indo-Bangladesh border, Muntasir Chowdhury Badal (Prosenjit Chatterjee), his wife Laila (Bangladeshi actress Kusum Sikder) and their daughter Roopsha (Shajbati).  

Roopsha suffers from a life threatening heart disease and local doctors failed. The couple is advised by the neighbours and local doctors to get her treated at any well equipped hospital in a big town. The couple are Bangladeshi nationals but for them India is a nearer destination.

As Roopsha’s condition worsens, the couple decides to reach India crossing the Ichamati river. Ultimately they reached India, got their daughter admitted to the hospital but at the cost of fake names, religion and country to avoid get deported back.

Prosenjit Chatterjee is outstanding in film Sankhachil and this is undoubtadely his best performance.

Pop superstar Prince was found dead at his home on Thursday in suburban Minneapolis. He was 57. Prince will be remembered for ever for "Little Red Corvette", `'Let's Go Crazy", "When Doves Cry" and many more.

 Prince postponed a concert in Atlanta on 07 April this year after coming down with the flu, and he apologized to fans for the cancellation during a makeup concert last week.

Prince's publicist confirmed his death but didn't provide details about the possible cause or who was with the musician.

"It is with profound sadness that I am confirming that the legendary, iconic performer, Prince Rogers Nelson, has died at his Paisley Park residence this morning," publicist Yvette Noel-Schure said.

 Ultimately J J Hospital doctors confirmed that TV actor Pratyusha Banerjee was pregnant and most probably undergone an abortion day before her alleged suicide on 02 April. Doctors confirmed this on the basis of a histopathological examination of tissues from the uterus of the actress.

As stated in TOI, "The findings showed that there was a conception few days or a month before her demise, and there was a premature death of the foetal cell." The products of conception, or the placental or foetal tissue in the uterus found following delivery, termination of pregnancy or a miscarriage, were infected and degenerated. That usually hints towards a secondary infection, probably occurring due to an attempt to terminate the pregnancy."
